Newsletter 18/8/14

Dear Participants,

The Dalai Lama’s visit to Hamburg is just around the corner. We would like to share some important visitor information with you to ensure a smooth start.

Tips for Admission

Please bring your printed ticket with you.
You will not be admitted to the event without it.

Please proceed to the counter and show your ticket for verification on your fist visit. The ticket will be cleared and you will receive a wrist ribbon for all days which you have booked a seat.

We recommend picking up your wrist ribbon already on Friday afternoon. Our counters in CCH will be open for you starting at 1 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. On Friday, our counters are open until 7 p.m.

Arrival on Saturday

We are expecting about 7,000 visitors on Saturday. Due to big crowds and security checks, we kindly ask you to arrive at least one hour before event begins at CCH. Even better, would be two hours before event starts. Doors open starting at 7:30 a.m. and CCH also offers coffee and snacks.

There will be a security check prior to entering Hall H; please bring very few things with you, wherever possible. You are only permitted to take small handbags with the dimension of 20 x 30 x 15 cm (ca. size of DIN A4). A cloak room with limited space is also available for a fee.

Arrival to CCH on Sunday

As already mentioned in the last Newsletter, an international bicycle race will take place on Sunday, 24 Aug.
Busses will not be traveling to train station “Dammtor“ on Sunday. Likewise pedestrian and bicycle paths will be limited. It will be next to impossible to cross over the Edmund-Siemers-Allee on Sunday. Therefore, the only possibilites reaching the CCH are take S train to station “Dammtor” or use the U1 to “Stephansplatz.“

We have compiled pertinent information in that regard at www.dalailama-hamburg.de/Location.6.0.html.

Food and drinks

Due to many meals having been reserved in advance, the CCH can only provide just a limited number of lunches for all the other visitors. There are many snack stands in and around the CCH. Our Info Team on-site will be glad to advise you regarding other possibilities nearby for food and drinks, such as Grindel Quarters / in vicinity of the University, Gänsemarkt or the Colonnaden.

Shugden Conflict

There were demonstrations against the Dalai Lama by the „Shugden devotees“ earlier this year in the USA and Europe, .i.e. Dalai Lama’s visit to Frankfurt in May. Most likely, the protestors will demonstrate at the Hamburg event as well.

Here you can find some background info.

We are looking forward to this opportunity to spend time together with the Dalai Lama. Have a good journey!

Best wishes,

Christof Spitz
