Buddhism in Germany

For almost 100 years, there have been people in Germany studying the teachings of the Awakened One and living accordingly. In 1955, several groups joined ranks and created an umbrella organization which was given the name of "Deutsche Buddhistische Union" (DBU) three years later. The DBU with headquarters in Munich has the purpose of furthering the spiritual practice of its members and to be a point of contact for the interested public, without any missionary intentions.

According to DBU data, more than 200,000 persons in this country profess Buddhism; about half of them are Asian immigrants. About 55 Buddhist groups are represented in the DBU, among them also the "Tibetische Zentrum e.V."
